Embracelet

September 2022 - November 2022

Tasked with designing for a post-pandemic, introverted world, we interviewed concert-goers to reach an insight: introverts face higher barriers to participate. With this in mind, we created Embracelet, a bracelet that allows users to signal distress. Pulling on a tab activates blinking LEDs, and causes the Embracelets of nearby concert-goers to vibrate to alert them that someone needs to pass through. This provides a sense of security and levels the playing field so everyone can feel included.

Spaces In-between

January 2023 - March 2023

This concept for an intervention to make the Tekniska Museum experience more inclusive for visitors with hearing impairments is based on the idea of the “spaces in-between”, seemingly unimportant spaces which are crucial to navigate the exhibits and find your way around. The multimedia installation uses light, vibrations, and tactile interfaces to capture traces of previous visitors as they pass, giving a sense of place and community that is accessible for everyone, regardless of ability.

January 2023 - March 2023

For this project, we were tasked with writing a report on the sustainability of the ICT practices of a multinational company. We were given the opportunity to interview several employees across the organization, and used the corporate communications as an additional source for our research. Using concepts from the fields of ICT for Sustainability (ICT4S) and Sustainable HCI (SHCI), we produced a number of recommendations to challenge the company to become a leader in sustainability.

April 2023 - ongoing

A foot haptic-feedback peripheral to enhance the user experience by contributing to immersion in Virtual Reality environments, this project attempts to be able to simulate different floor textures by combining an array of pressure sensors and linear resonant actuators. Beyond entertainment applications, we envision this device being used for therapeutical uses such as rehabilitation, where it can help patients in the process of regaining confidence while negotiating different terrains.

About Me

emoji_objects history_edu draw travel_explore handyman mic_external_on labs

My name is Pedro Sánchez Lira and this is my portfolio. It contains projects I have participated in during the last 9 months as part of the master's programme in Interactive Media Technology at KTH, which I'm currently undertaking. I've also worked for some 13 years in different roles around human-computer interaction. My current interests center on the social impact of digital technologies, and on how we can ensure that they are designed and built in a way that promotes human flourishing.

I'm something of a digital handyman. I can code and build prototypes, and I know my way around visual design, but what I enjoy the most is doing research, coming up with concepts, and testing them. If any of this sounds interesting, feel free to contact me.
